Izzy Flynn™: Neighborhood Detective
The Case of the Stolen Hoverboard
Chapter 1: The Disappearance
Harley’s shiny red hoverboard wasn’t just any toy—it was his favorite thing in the world. He had saved up for months, polishing it every day until it gleamed in the sunlight.
That morning, he went outside to show it to his neighbor, but it was gone. His heart sank.
“I left it right here!” Harley shouted, pointing to the front porch. “Where did it go?”
He searched everywhere: under the bushes, behind the garage, even in the mailbox. Nothing.
He asked neighbors, but no one had seen a thing. Even the neighborhood dogs didn’t seem to know.
Finally, he ran to the police station. Officer Johnson, a tall man with a kind smile, nodded.
“Don’t worry, Harley. We’ll find it,” he said, writing everything down. “I’ll talk to all the neighbors.”
Days passed. Officer Johnson knocked on doors, asked questions, and even checked security cameras. But there were no clues, no footprints, and no witnesses. Harley’s hoverboard seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Chapter 2: The Detective Arrives
Izzy Flynn wasn’t your ordinary twelve-year-old. While other kids played video games or collected comic books, Izzy collected clues, mysteries, and riddles. Her room looked like a mini detective lab, with notebooks, maps, and detective tools neatly organized on every shelf.
When she heard about Harley’s missing hoverboard, she grabbed her notebook and hurried to the scene.
“I’m on the case!” she declared, flipping open her notebook.
She began talking to the neighborhood kids. Most said they didn’t know anything, but one boy, Derrick, spoke up.
“I was at the middle school football game,” Derrick said casually.
Izzy tilted her head.
“Oh? Where were you sitting?”
Derrick smirked.
“Right on the fifty-five-yard line.”
Izzy frowned.
Something didn’t add up.
Chapter 3: The Clue
Later that afternoon, Izzy rode her bike to the local football field.
She walked slowly along the sidelines, counting every yard marker.
Ten…
Twenty…
Thirty…
Forty…
Fifty…
She stopped.
There was no fifty-five-yard line.
Only fifty, forty, thirty, twenty, and ten.
Izzy quietly closed her notebook.
Derrick had lied.
A lie didn’t prove someone was guilty—but it did mean there was another mystery to solve.
Chapter 4: The Discovery
Izzy wasn’t ready to accuse anyone—not yet.
“A detective doesn’t solve cases with guesses,” she whispered to herself. “Only with facts.”
That evening she walked past Derrick’s house, pretending to toss a baseball into the air. As she glanced toward the open garage, something caught her eye.
A tiny streak of bright red.
It disappeared almost as quickly as she saw it.
Her heart skipped.
Was that the hoverboard?
She couldn’t be sure.
The next afternoon she returned.
This time the garage door was closed.
No red.
No clues.
No proof.
For two more days Izzy watched carefully.
Then, just before sunset, Derrick rolled a large cardboard box out of the garage and started dragging it toward the backyard.
The bottom of the box sagged under the weight.
As he lifted it over a small step…
CRACK!
One corner split open.
For only a second…
A bright red wheel peeked through the tear.
Izzy froze.
Harley’s hoverboard had bright red wheels.
Before Derrick noticed, she quietly ducked behind a tree.
Her pulse raced.
“Now I know.”
She waited until Derrick disappeared behind the shed.
Then she hurried to Officer Johnson.
“I think I’ve found it,” she said, trying to catch her breath. “But I need you to come with me.”
Officer Johnson looked at her notebook.
“You sound pretty confident.”
Izzy smiled.
“I’m not confident.”
She tapped her notebook.
“I’m certain.”
Chapter 5: The Truth Revealed
Officer Johnson walked with Izzy into Derrick’s backyard.
The torn cardboard box sat beside the shed.
“Derrick,” Officer Johnson said calmly, “would you mind opening the box?”
Derrick swallowed hard.
Slowly…
He pulled back the flaps.
Harley’s shiny red hoverboard stared back at everyone.
Harley gasped.
“You found it…”
Derrick lowered his head.
“I’m sorry.”
Chapter 6: The Reason
Izzy crouched down to Derrick’s level.
“Why would you take it?” she asked gently.
Derrick bit his lip.
“My mom lost her job. I wanted to sell the hoverboard to help her.”
Izzy nodded.
“I understand that you wanted to help your mom. That was kind. But stealing isn’t the right way to solve a problem. There are always better choices.”
Derrick looked down.
“I know. I… I just didn’t think.”
Officer Johnson placed a reassuring hand on Derrick’s shoulder.
“Making a mistake doesn’t define you,” he said. “What matters now is making it right.”
Chapter 7: Making Things Right
Derrick returned the hoverboard to Harley.
Harley hugged it tightly.
“Thanks so much! I was so worried I’d never see it again!”
“I really am sorry,” Derrick said.
To make amends, he offered to mow Harley’s lawn all summer long to earn back his trust.
Harley smiled.
“I forgive you.”
Officer Johnson looked at Izzy with a grin.
“You’ve got the instincts of a professional detective.”
The neighborhood kids cheered.
Izzy smiled, opened her notebook one last time, and wrote:
Observation + Logic + Kindness = Justice
She closed the notebook with a satisfied smile.
Case closed…
For now.
